Golden State Warriors: Stephen Curry omits current players from his dream team

Golden State Warriors’ superstar Stephen Curry has revealed his all-time dream team starting five, delivering a who’s who of players throughout NBA history.

The two-time MVP was asked for his dream starting five during a recent photo shoot, offering a perspective that will no doubt spark debate among NBA fans on social media.

Stephen Curry has omitted all current players from his dream team, with the Golden State Warriors’ legend choosing to focus on retired NBA legends.
Curry’s team reflects those he may have admired the most growing up, with all five players having played at one point in the last 30 years. The 35-year-old’s starting five consists of Los Angeles Lakers’ legends Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal, alongside the arguable GOAT Michael Jordan and Spurs superstar Tim Duncan.

While none of the players no longer play alongside Curry, the nine-time All-Star has connections with almost all of them. His career overlapped with Bryant, Duncan and even briefly with an aging O’Neal.

Curry’s leadership has often been compared to that of Duncan, with the duo leading their respective teams to years of sustained success. Duncan’s selfless-style helped the Spurs to five championships between 1999 and 2014, while Curry’s led the Warriors to four titles since 2015 and has been the key architect to completely flipping the fate of a franchise.

Just like Jordan revolutionized the game during the 80’s and particularly the 90’s, Curry has done the same with the advent of the three-point shot that’s drastically shifted the way the game’s played. With the unequivocal stature as the greatest shooter ever, Curry is often put alongside Johnson as the two best point-guard’s of all-time.

O’Neal has been extremely complimentary of Curry across the past few years, constantly mentioning him as one of his favorite players. The future hall-of-famer and Bryant had some great battles in the early 2010’s, including a game in which they combined for 59 points on November 1, 2014.

Curry chose not select himself in his all-time five, but with an impeccable résumé and as one of the most recognizable players in recent NBA history, there’s no doubt he’ll go down in plenty of all-time dream teams as the future goes along.
